Constructing a Profile: Showreel
What is a Showreel:
A showreel is a video around 3 minutes or below that consists of small clips of different projects the person has do.ne in their education. Show-reels are normally applied on CVs which can show an individuals talents, producing and casting. There are also different types of showreels that include audio for the creator to present their work by voice instead of displaying a batch of clips with music in the background, a showreel can also include different things such as actors which is key for displaying it to courses like Media and also editors that can show processes for the videos that are involved in your projects and your Show-reels, what makes a showreel effective is that it must include each and every project the creator has done and the quality must be in top shape as it will not do well with the audience when they are reacting to this type of video, what also makes a showreel effective is that it must tell a story about the creators journey through their work and give as much detail as possible as well as portraying them as a creator of this specific content.

What makes this video a main point of a showreel is that it shows prime examples of what showreel can include such as small clips of other projects while making them look well constructed and edited, this shows the creativity in the eyes of the creator because they knew exactly where to attach these footages while they are edited the video, what also makes this video effective for an audience is the way the film is put together and how the people involved in the video are acted out and how they are different from the other clips shown in the video. From what makes this video effective to an audience is it shows creativity and it also presents a majority of content for an audience to be inspired by and to get their main reaction and feedback from their own perspective, what also makes this type of showreel effective is the edits presented by each bit of footage like it cuts from a shoulder level shot then to a close up shot and this shows that this video has good consistency to keep up the amount of edits and techniques to present on the platform along with using Technical Skills such as filming which is a key part of this video along with the graphics which are high quality for the shots shown in the video, the editing is also a good touch because it shows a small amount of clips but it also makes it look like the footage clips are one in the same just in different areas. The way these would get noticed in the employment industry would be that the companies that would investigate this type of showreel would analysis every detail in the video and picking each part where they would like the parts and then select what needed to be improved like general feedback and if it gets approved the creator could get a role in the industry depending if they are freelance or not.

What makes this video effective is how it is portraited to the audience that are viewing this showreel, the reason why it is portraited so well is because the video is presented in a trailer like vision which can capture the attention of some viewers, what also is effective about the showreel is how the shots are taken and by this I mean how each bit of footage is involving a different camera angle such as long shot for capturing more details in the video, the way the creator uses the camera angles is well used in certain clips like how in one of shots was a short clip of a meadow like area which displays a good setting to the video and how it panes out for the duration of it, what also is effective about the video is that the creator has shown the audience how much work has been put into the completed video with all the different types of edits placed into such a short video and how much detail is also shown with the amount of content included. The way that this showreel would be noticed by certain companies in their respected area would be that they would notice the certain camera angles in the video and the company would want that type of angle in their videos or adverts, what the companies would also notice would be that how the graphics look in the film and just the basic skill of what is presented.
Envisage
For this showreel I envisaged in how it would be done; the way that I was planning it to be was to have an intro in which years the work was made and why they were presented such as how one video was made back in 2020 and it would only show that work and it would continue until it reached another and so on. How it went originally was that it was just the work compiled into different types of clips but with a few edits to make it more detailed. Other parts that were envisioned was more of the old work that was going to be included such as a small project where myself and others worked in a team to film a small film involving a ship flying across the camera but it was meant to look like it was in space, the reason why this wasn't put into the showreel was because it wasn't enough footage to include and there was another video that stood out to that project and that was the lightsaber video.
The showreel was going to mainly consist of old work from the first year of the media course but it was changed due to some of the content provided not being originally from myself and was particularly from online websites and other video piled in with other music that was copywrited, this was switched with content that was originally made by myself such as the barbering video and the tutorial video. Finally the last decision that was made was the inclusion of certain effects in the video when its fully complete, by this I mean the effects that would make the video more complex and detailed and this was then cut from the production due them making the video too long and it did not meet the duration limit of 3 minutes although the video is around 1 minute long.
Production Process
8th of February 2022: I began this project by collecting some footage from past and present work but carefully selected which parts to include in the video, this was done by watching each video carefully and analysing each part to which would be included, the videos I looked at first was the barbering video which was in two parts and those were the actual video itself and a behind the scenes that showed off what happened while that video was in production, another video was the Tutorial that had some parts where it was sped up which could be good to include in the showreel while it was being made and finally a good video that was also looked at was the lightsaber video which was a very good inclusion due to its good effects and I thought that was a good inclusion.
9th February 2022: Next on the production of the showreel was more inclusion of certain content that I have made or at least posted, the videos I looked at was the energy drink advert with both the green screen version and the actual video with a background edits and after that was the happy foundation video and the Climate change video which would be decent for a start of the showreel. After these videos were looked at, I launched Adobe Premier Pro and began working on the final submission; I began by shortening the happy foundation video along with the climate change video and decided to have them be the beginning of the showreel before they would move onto other clips, next was adding in the barbering video and I decided to have the behind the scenes version first as that was going to be the first project that included a team effort which that video was, and by cutting most of the content off it was a good start to constructing this showreel.
10th February 2022: This was the final day of production of the showreel and for the beginning of this production I added in a video from another group project this was titled "Straight Outta Bede Campus" and it was a green screen project from the first year of the level 3 course, the video was a bit on the blurred side but I felt like that was a good inclusion because it made it look like an olden time like video and after that was the inclusion of the tutorial video and with this I decided to change the speed of this video from 100% to 150% to make it more quicker pacing so that the next clip was playing.
The barbering video was next and to make sure that wasn't too long I increased the speed of it to 250% from 100% as that would be too long of a process and increasing the speed would make the clip shorter, after including the now updated clip finding a good effect for the green screen and product video for the energy drink advert and I decided to include a classic news cut effect where it will look like the footage has been corrupted and needs a quick fixing but it will the cut to the more well edited and fully done video while the music will continue as it made a stop when the effect was ongoing.
Next was adding the lightsaber video which was cut into 3 parts, this is because I wished for the effect to add in a slow motion effect then it will cut to a more fast paste effect, the way I did was using the speed/duration tool to make this possible and the speed of the slow motion clip 50% while the others 250% so going from a fast motion to a slow motion and then to another fast motion again, after this was including another clip from the behind the scenes barbering video and then it was a new addition to the video collection and the video was my Foley sound project of a clip from the star wars franchise with the addition of my own sound designs fitted into the clip and for the finale of the showreel was the finished product for my tutorial and a clip from the energy drink advert followed by its own credits and message at the end of the video and that was end of of my production of the showreel as it was published on YouTube and ready for feedback.

Feedback
The feedback I have received for this showreel consists of the 3 different categories and those were, what was good about the showreel, what need to be improved and what skills were used to make this video. For the what went well part for the feedback, the audience gave their reactions in a positive tone; the main reactions for this showreel would be the main contrast of different projects which the audience seemed to enjoy as well as the content included like the lightsaber which was a favourite amongst the rest of the clips but the audience enjoyed the main duration of the clips used in the showreel, another comment by one of the audience was that they enjoyed the visual effects, this is a good example of comparing it to what details I was going for when making this showreel as I wanted to include at least some effects to make it more detailed.
For what needed to be improved from the audience was fairly criticized, for the most part the feedback for should be improved was an improvement in making sure all clips was the same and none including a border around them which would be good if there wasn't issues for making sure there was no black border as it would have the clip be blurred, what was also shown for improvement was the making the video longer and this could have been done if more products of mine were available and not in bad quality or unfinished, another comment I received from the audience was the addition of subtitles and that could have been a good effect for the video as it would explain each clip and show off when they were made and what was the main name for the video.
For the skills that were shown in this video, the audience pointed out a various amount of them used in this video such as editing which was the main aspect for this showreel as the editing was the most important part of the showreel production as well as the technical skill which I would agree is used in this showreel as well as the editing of the video. What was also pointed out for a skill usage was the usage of visual effects as that was another key part of the video due to most of the clips involving the lightsaber video and the energy drink advert which also were some of the projects I put most of the work into.
The Feedback I have received has given me more of a better of how I can make my showreel more detailed and the original video has had some changes due to the feedback I had received, for example the usage of clips from the tutorial were used too frequently and that was altered to another project that was made by myself such as the test video for the haircut video where I gave another one of my classmates a fake haircut to see how the actual video would turn out. Other edits to the video were adding captions to the video as originally the showreel had no captions to see which video was which but now thanks to feedback it impacted me that I had to make some changes in order to make sure the audience would understand which video they were watching and when it was created such as in 2020-2022. Finally another part of the Feedback that impacted me was the usage of clips that were missing and some that were not needed in the final piece such as the energy drink advert which had a picture of a designed creature and with the feedback, I removed it and altered the clips to make it look more detailed than the original, another example of clips changing was the end credits which due to feedback, said that there was not enough creditability to the creator about some extra parts such as camera operator and editor; so that was changed to make the end credits more official that I did most of these videos and to make it more of a detailed video, I created an edit that would phase in and out of the video so that the audience had a better chance to see much more detail and creativity in the showreel.

Evaluation
My final thoughts on this showreel is that I think it is very well edited and produced as I used many skills to make this video fully complete and ready to present like creative thinking, editing and technical skill. What I think went well with this showreel is the planning for the preparation as I felt like it was well coordinated with what videos I wanted to include while it was in production along with what places they were going to be in, why planning also went well was the choices I made for the edits as it takes some creative thinking in order to produce a film. What also went well was the edits for the showreel as I decided I wanted to show off most of the effects I used in the video such as the Foley sound project as using that has shown me that using effects such as sounds could be a great addition to the video and other effects like the visuals are what went well because using green screen is a good way to provide good effects and content to a video and projects such as the energy drink advert shows that how much of an improvement it can make to anyone's projects.
What I think should be improved in my showreel is maybe adding in some more effects like subtitles which could show what videos are and when they were made like how it was mentioned in the feedback about how the inclusion of some subtitles could present more detail to the video and can gain me a good way to help me improve my videos in the coming future, what I also think should be improved in the video should be my way of displaying videos as some of the videos that I included are placed in black borders and what I could do to prevent this is to zoom in more but that would cause a blur effect which would not be good quality so a way to find a solution for this would be a good option and that would make my videos better quality and more well produced.
