Research into My Future Options

My initial plan was to go into a freelance job within the industry as an editor, I researched into the editor role online by looking at video tutorials of tips and tricks about creating certain edits for videos and from within this research I decided that if I wanted to have this role in content creation or editing, I would need to know a bit more from what I already know so that is why I decided to apply for a university and apply for a student role in the Film and Television course as I felt like that course would be the best for me to be a good experience in learning new things for my dream career in the future. The skills I would have needed to gain a good knowledge of editing and content creation, I would need to know what platforms to use, what tools to use to make these specific edits and boost up the creativity of the videos I have made and have a good experience in computing and design for certain topics like art or media. What certain employers that might be suitable for this type of role would be companies that specialize in video creating or filming/editing as those types fit my criteria or if it is an option, working in freelance is also a good option because I can still do the things I find enjoyable and maybe get a good income out of it.

How I found out about the course I applied for is looking through the UCAS website and looking through its various options and after looking into some options I had chosen 3 Universities that fit the criteria of what i wanted to learn for my career choice, these options were helpful due to the variety of options they had given me in the course descriptions and had improved my choices on the University I wanted to go to. The University choice did not change my hope to become an editor or a content creator but it did give me a hope to help me improve that I could achieve that dream career. The Skills needed were simple in just having a good sense in the media industry and some technical skills such as editing and creativity.

The research I have done did have a way of persuading me go into University as it showed me what I can actually do with my creative thinking and also of what I am capable of when doing certain tasks. The Path that I chose was a one of the filming as I felt like that was the best option for myself and with the work I have done for example I have gained a passion in creating films and having to edit the footage after shooting the video. I have constructed the 3 UCAS applications for the 3 Universities I have applied for and after doing that in a matter of time I had received 3 replies from the Universities that I have been accepted into all 3, one of them was an unconditional and the others had a conditional acceptation; the conditions were to require a number of tariff points which is UCAS’s way of calculating what grades you got as well as in one of the conditions were to require specific grades. 

In the beginning I was against putting in an application for University as I wanted to do something else before I left college but after some thinking and some listening to lectures about University, I changed my opinion and mind on applying and made myself 3 different applications. My alternative plan was to go for a freelance job in the industry but after a matter of thinking and realization, I knew that I needed more experience and learning to make sure that I could achieve such a role in the working and media industry. 

Undertaking Networking Opportunities

The type of opportunities that I have been involved in was the networking tasks that myself and others took part in such as the Halloween Parade event that I got to record footage for during the event, mainly getting good captures of certain performances and given the equipment we had it was a good time to get some good scenes for potential videos, how this helped me improve my media skills is that I was able to have the opportunity to have more of an experience with a camera and look into more camera angles to help improve my camera skills even more. What I also was involved in as an opportunity was a section of my course that involved myself and others recording and editing footage for a barbering course and this was with an external department in the college and with this I gained an experience to work in a team where each of us had different specific job roles to make this production and finish the project for the course and also gave a wider insight on the media industry and how to make some projects a team is required to make it possible and having good teamwork would make progress.

The ITV Master Class was a good part of an opportunity because it gave me an experience to listen to other people work for the company and talk about what to include in future CVs and also talk about what type of people work at the company along with what it is like to work at ITV along with talking about what the audience do for interviews by giving advice to what the workers did to get the job. 

The Mock Interviews gave me some insight on the skills that I have developed during my years at the media course as I have learned about what it is like to be in an interview and how it can be pressuring sometimes but you have to push on, what I also learned is that when being in an interview it is up to you to think about what you want to say and the answers you must give to the interviewer must be honest and straight forward. How the Mock Interviews helped me gain more of a confidence to my will to go to university is that it gave me more an idea of what to say when getting asked about media related questions and by using the communication skills that I have developed much more during this interview, I can answer them without needing to think about much things. Finally how my communication skills have developed during the interview is that I know that I could trust the interviewer in giving me time to think about questions that I struggle to answer and how I can talk to others to get some good feedback after the interview concludes, how it has improved communication skills also is that if a question is brought up about something and I don't understand at first, I can safely ask for a repeat so I can think more on the matter of the question so I could give a full answer.

Creating my Brand Identity

I did several researches into the existing products of the different tasks that I was tasked with and the ones that gave me the most inspiration was the Business Card blog due to the existing designs that I looked had unique and futuristic type design so that is what I wanted to base the design on without using the same techniques and strategies the creators of the existing products had. The development throughout the B1 has been through some drafts and prototypes as I have been progressing through the work process and these prototypes are blog work like the logo design as that went through a bit of testing and revisions for it to be a successful completion, other designs are projects like the showreel as I had to go through different clips where I revised and analyzed each video to see which one would go into the showreel and edited for preparation.

The Feedback received on the work I produced was asked by myself to others as I required them to give me feedback on the work I did such as the website and showreel design, with this it showed how I could improve my working and make it better as I got feedback such as changing up parts of videos or improving texts and this shows how the feedback I received can both impact and benefit my choices in continuing my productions, the work that feedback impacted the most would be the website design as that showed me that I can make adjustments to rapidly improve my design to make it better as for example there was a problem with the videos I displayed but due to feedback, I was able to fix the problem and make it much better for people to see. 

My Intentions for the work I have done in this section of the course is to use them for a few reasons and one of those is for showing past work when at university in the coming future as using the work will help me relearn things that I have once forgotten in past courses and can even improve on some of it when doing studies at university. What I can also use the final products that I have made for is that I can use them to aid me when designing certain creations for my possible future career by the time I finish college and by this I mean create such things like Logos or possible thumbnails as well as original content for viewers online to enjoy and by having a good sense in creativity I think its a good option to test out all the things I've learned from B1 and other parts of the course.

Overall

Overall B1 has been mixed for myself as some of the work took longer than it should and some of the research was complicated to complete and write up on a blog post, but there were some good posts that I think I did well on and those were the showreel blog, the business card and logo blog and the employment within the industry and whilst I think some work could be improved I do believe that I have put a lot of effort into the work that I have produced. What I think went well with B1 is the detail I have placed into each post like for example, the Business Card and Logo blogs have shown a big upgrade in progression like how the post has been updated in detail and analysis, other posts that went well would be the Showreel post as that has shown a lot of thought and detail placed into it with it’s descriptive writing about certain aspects of the Showreel design and work as well as presenting the video itself and finally what I think went well with the B1 was the way I ordered each part of the work that needed to be done like how in the CV blog I first began with the definition before then moving onto the other tasks and this goes for other blogs as well because they all follow the same tactic when writing down the work for completion and then ending it on an evaluation or some other description.

What I think needs improving in my B1 is the coordination of the work that was done as some of it was done different from the other like for example when it was supposed to be the logo design that was supposed to be done first but ended up being the business card and that also goes the same for some other posts like the academic research which was done way later on than it should have been along with the employment search. What I also think should be improved is the research that I did for some of the posts as I felt whilst some were decently done and well researched for the work purposes, I do think that some of the research could have been better and improved better but some of the research was improved recently like the mock interview post and that consisted of a decent amount of research done into the blog and how it could benefit me when my work is being assessed.

From where I was before starting this course, I was a little more inexperienced when it came to designing such work and did designs that were passable but not well detailed in my eyes but now I have a much better knowledge in creating certain projects by using my creative thinking to cast an image in my head and then produce that project that I was tasked to do but with some minor changes to it. My knowledge has increased during my time in the media course as I have learned many knew techniques that I could use in the coming future as well as learn more things as I continue making this type of content and different types of designs, not only has my knowledge increased but my confidence has changed quite a bit since the last year of the course as I was not really confident in thinking my work was good enough but now I have more of a confidence that I can finish work and then see if I think it is good or not. My skills can be shown in projects that I finish and produce and by that I mean I can work with programs such as Adobe Premier Pro and Photoshop where I can show my progress to others and maybe get some feedback in the meantime, this also means that with all my things that I have learned and gained a good knowledge from, I can make applications to things like university and jobs which I have already done for university.
